Sharks are fish with cartilage skeletons, not bones. They’ve existed for over 400 million years. There are 500+ species ranging from tiny lanternsharks to massive whale sharks. Most are harmless. They replace thousands of teeth and have rows that rotate forward. They sense electricity with ampullae of Lorenzini and smell extremely well. Some must keep swimming to breathe, others can rest. They live in all oceans, from reefs to deep sea. A few can live over 200 years. Humans are their biggest threat.
