Ty Detmer is a legendary BYU quarterback (1988–1991) who won the 1990 Heisman Trophy, becoming the first player from a Rocky Mountain school to achieve the honor. A standout under coach LaVell Edwards, the consensus All-American passed for 15,031 yards and 121 touchdowns, setting 59 NCAA records during his college career, including a famous win over top-ranked Miami. Following college, the San Antonio native played for 14 seasons in the NFL (1992–2005) with teams including the Packers and Eagles. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2012.
