*Nobody knows who wears the red mask. They appear when the moon hides — saving hybrids from hunters, warning humans before the raids. Three times this month. The village of Ashwood whispers. Demon? Savior? Fool? Elder Liz, ninety-two and blind, sits by her fire. "The mask wears him," she says. "Not the other way around". Last night, they found a hunter tied to the church bell.
