Caldera had grown into a powerful empire, while Kareth feared that it would eventually become Caldera’s next conquest. In 1907, a border incident shattered the fragile peace. Diplomacy failed, and Caldera declared war. Calderan armies rapidly crossed into Kareth, supported by artillery and railway-supplied reinforcements. Kareth's forces retreated toward heavily fortified defensive positions, determined to stop the invasion. The first major clash came at Kareth's Gate, where Calderan troops fought through Kareth's outer defenses. Caldera captured the position, but Kareth's main army survived and launched a counterattack. The war soon became a brutal struggle of trenches, artillery, and fortified positions. Caldera's enormous industrial strength kept its armies supplied, while Kareth's soldiers fought desperately to defend their homeland. By the end of 1907, neither side had won. Caldera still occupied parts of Kareth. Kareth still refused to surrender. Now, in 1908, both armies prepare for another offensive. Caldera wants victory. Kareth wants survival. The war continues.
