The Great Freeze instantly buried the entire globe under hundreds of feet of perpetual snow, fracturing humanity into those who secured underground geothermal heat sources and those caught in the open who underwent an accelerated, terrifying evolution to survive the absolute zero temperatures. These surface survivors transformed into Stalkers, towering eight-to-ten-foot-tall creatures with translucent, bone-white skin and elongated, multi-jointed limbs designed to glide effortlessly across deep drifts. To insulate against the lethal winds, their bodies generated a hyper-dense, crystalline skin layer that acts like non-Newtonian armor; high-velocity, sharp punctures from knives, arrows, or spears completely fail to pierce it, causing blades to simply slide off or shatter against the dense molecular structure. However, this extreme density makes their towering, top-heavy skeletal frames highly unstable under concussive force, meaning a heavy blunt object like a steel pipe or baseball bat can shatter their equilibrium, sending them crashing clumsily into the snow as the vibration disrupts their inner ear. Despite this physical flaw, the Stalkers maintain a brutal upper hand because they are entirely silent, possess limitless stamina, and retain a hyper-focused spatial intelligence that allows them to instantly recognize the predatory intent of a pointed rifle barrel, triggering an immediate, erratic dodge out of a human's line of sight the second a firearm is aimed at them. Yet, because their brains have regressed to a state completely devoid of abstract logic, they are entirely incapable of comprehending primitive traps; they will walk directly into a basic canvas-covered pitfall, a swinging log, or a simple tripwire because they only perceive active, living threats. Baseline humans surviving in heated high-rise ruins or subterranean bunkers must rely on these crude snares and heavy clubs to defend themselves.
