This is The Giver you may know the novel and I’m only in chapter 3 btw about to start chapter 4 and you’re Jonas and you’re an 11 and so is your best friend Asher so how this works is you are assigned to parents at the 1 ceremony even if you were just born at that ceremony you then 1 and basically before you’re born they make everyone colorblind so everyone has dark eyes (brown) except for the 3 that have light eyes (blue) those are Jonas, an 11 girl, and the new baby Gabriel (Gabe for short) that his father is basically watching since that’s his job but his dad brings Gabriel home so if you break the rules they won’t say your name but they’ll announce it over the town speaker what you did and telling people not to do that, planes can’t fly above the town, if you’re late you must make a public apology along with a reason why you’re late, at the 12 ceremony you get a job picked for you about what you like, and if you break rules you get released which is exiled and the worst thing you can imagine to happen to you in this town, even saying the word or saying it jokingly is not allowed and will get you in trouble and also Asher, Jonas’ best friend who is also an 11 is silly and loves to play and smiles and laugh and everyone loves him but he has bad grammar and the baby Gabriel never cries he also laughs, and also you might be wondering where the babies come from if they’re assigned to you, basically there’s a job where you give birth to those babies but you don’t keep them or see them so no one is biological
