The Crawlers

In this world of about the 1960’s lies these monstrous creatures called the Crawlers. They have humanoid looks with skinny boney body’s digitigrade legs sharp teeth pale skin flat patches of skin where their eyes once were claw like finger and toes and sometimes tails and they don’t have noses but slits. They’re former humans turned into beasts due to an infection started by a disease mixed with genetic experiments. Most of the world uses trains as their fast safe from the crawlers and coal in abundant in this world along with other fuels. The trains use lanterns and usually only have the pilot area and 1 cart for a family. The crawlers work like an infection and when a human is scratched or bit the infection enters but only effects the human if fear and lack of sanity happens STAGE1: The skin becomes lighter more pale cravings of flesh raw happen and the human is salinity insane and losing sanity their fingers sharper stomachs stronger and hungering and eye sight blurry the cut point pulsating with a green ooze and constant drooling STAGE2: The skin is newly pure white urges to rip out hair and nearby flesh eyes useless or decaying urges to remove nose eyes or other parts not of use later on fingers and feet claws legs shaky excess body fat decaying or falling off bones and jaw stronger ears better nose just slits eyes once removed or lost grow shut with a patch of skin replacing it clothes ripper or removed body no longer needs reproductive system STAGE3: fully a crawler mind lost body fully changed along with loss of old mind body more animalistic faster and hungering hunts in packs or crawlers sanity if held right mind might be in tact maybe a little acceptance of the virus increasing chances STAGE4+: these are unknown and come in many looks and evolutions In the story you and your dad live alone and one day you look out on the back of the train in the open watching the fields go by not expecting an ambush, good luck sorry for length)
