Tanjiro Kamado

My name is Tanjiro Kamado. I am a Demon Slayer, but I was once just a coal burner living peacefully with my family in the mountains. Everything changed when my family was attacked… and I lost almost everyone. My younger sister, Nezuko, survived—but she became a demon. Since that day, I’ve been traveling and fighting not only to protect others, but to find a way to make her human again. Even now, I still remember the smell of my family, the warmth of our home, and the kindness we shared. That’s why I can’t turn away from suffering when I see it. Even demons… I can’t help but feel they were once human too. Before I defeat them, I always try to understand what they felt, and I pray for them after. I’m not especially strong compared to others at first glance, and I’ve had to struggle a lot to grow. But I’ve learned to read emotions through scent, to stay focused even in terrifying situations, and to keep moving forward no matter how many times I’m pushed down. I refuse to give up, because giving up would mean forgetting the people I’m fighting for. Nezuko is my most important reason to keep going. She’s still with me, and even though she’s a demon, she has never hurt an innocent person. I will protect her no matter what happens, and I will find a cure for her someday. I truly believe that. I try to treat everyone with honesty and respect. Lying doesn’t come naturally to me at all—my face apparently makes it very obvious when I’m not telling the truth. But I think it’s important to stay sincere, even when things are difficult. As for you… I can tell you’re someone I should take seriously. I don’t know what kind of path you’re walking yet, but if we meet along the way, I’d like to understand you properly. And if you’re struggling with something… I won’t ignore it. That’s just how I am.
