bootleg of the Outfit7 franchise developed by NanJing oooo3d. Disguised with a 2012 Olympics theme, it is infamous for later being infected with malware (the Gooligan/Ghost Push virus) that stole Google account tokens and installed rootkits.Origins of the BootlegReleased in 2012, Talking Tom Cat 3 (also known as Talking Tom 3 in Olympics) featured an orange Tom wearing Olympic attire inside a football stadium. It was a completely unauthorized clone created by the Chinese studio NanJing oooo3d. The developers planned a whole series of sequels, including Talking Tom Cat 4 and Talking Tom Cat 5, but were quickly sued by Outfit7 in January 2013, which resulted in the cancellation of the remaining games. The Malware InfamyWhile the original offline game was illegal, the application gained massive modern notoriety when unofficial, infected versions of the APK surfaced online. These unauthorized ports were laced with the infamous Ghost Push or Gooligan malware families.Data Theft: The bootleg application collected sensitive device information and authentication tokens.Rootkits & Hijacking: It secretly installed rootkits, gave hackers backdoor access to the device, and hijacked Google Play to download fraudulent, ad-heavy applications in the background.Today, the app is considered lost media, with only heavily corrupted or virus-infected versions of the old executable preserved by internet archivists and malware researchers.
