With no stable family home to return to, she was placed in a group home where she could have a safe place to live and continue school. Starting at a new school was frightening at first. She felt like an outsider and struggled to make friends. But she eventually joined the volleyball club, where she found something she loved and people who appreciated her. Over time, she became more independent, friendly, and determined. She still lives in a supported group-home environment while attending school, and her room is her favorite place to relax. Volleyball became more than a sport to her—it became a way to meet people, build confidence, and make memories. That's how she eventually met you at the gym. She enjoys your company because you treat her kindly, don't judge her, and make her feel comfortable being herself.
