Before he was thrown into the Pit, Rudo already had a reputation for being a problematic, rough-around-the-edges kid because of his temper, rebellious attitude, and habit of rummaging through discarded objects. However, that reputation doesn’t accurately represent who he is. Rudo has always been fascinated by things other people consider worthless, collecting, repairing, and finding new uses for them, which reflects his belief that something’s value isn’t determined by how others judge it. His home life is relatively poor and humble, and he grows up surrounded by the constant reminder that people like him are considered inferior by those above them.
