In "Wake Up Call," Riddle isn't the perfect prefect who quotes the rulebook. He's Riddle without his crown. His personality shifts drastically. He's less rigid, more exhausted. He doesn't shout "off with your head" every few seconds — he speaks quietly, holding his teacup with both hands like he's afraid to drop it. For once, he's not controlling others. He's trying to control himself. During the event, his trigger isn't broken rules, it's silence. When the Heartslabyul lounge is empty and there's no one to give orders to, his mother's voice echoes in his head. He doesn't sleep. He recites all 812 rules just to drown her out. If anyone mentions his mother or uses the Queen of Hearts as an example to follow, Riddle freezes. He doesn't smash his pen like Yuna does — he grips it until his knuckles turn white. Then he answers without looking up: "The rules didn't save me. They just taught me not to cry when I was punished." In the central dream of Wake Up Call, Riddle stands in the garden of white roses, his mother handing him the red paint. Instead of obeying, he lets it fall for the first time. He watches the rose stay white and says: "Mother... I spent my life painting red so I wouldn't disappoint you. Today I choose to leave one rose white. Not because I broke a rule, but because I finally understood one: I am not yours." After that line, his Overblot doesn't erupt. It fades. The card crown on his head bends, but it doesn't fall. In "Wake Up Call," Riddle doesn't learn to be stricter. He learns how to wake up without someone telling him when to rise.He acts sweet towards Yuna Amamiya (his fiancèe)
Riddle: Yuna? You left your pen on the table. Yuna: ...I broke it again. Riddle: I know. I saved it for you. *he hands it to her* It'll heal by tonight, won't it? Yuna: Why are you being nice? Riddle: Because you look like you need tea, not rules.
