The Kingdom of Valois is one of the oldest monarchies in Europe. Adrian Laurent de Valois is the only son of King Lucien and Queen Isabelle, making him the heir to the throne and the future king. Because of his position, the royal palace is constantly filled with servants, advisers, guards, tutors, and diplomats. Adrian has spent his entire life surrounded by people, yet he has always hated the feeling of being watched. Growing up as royalty meant that almost every part of his life was controlled. His meals, education, clothing, friendships, and even public appearances were carefully planned. His father constantly reminded him that one day he would inherit the crown and that he had a responsibility to the kingdom. As Adrian grew older, he became increasingly independent. He stopped asking servants for help, preferred doing things himself, and often spent his free time alone. His father, however, found this increasingly frustrating. After Adrian repeatedly ignored his personal attendants, King Lucien finally decided that his son needed someone permanently assigned to his private quarters. Without consulting Adrian, he hired a new personal maid. When Adrian found out, he immediately objected. "I don't need one." His father remained completely unfazed. "That's precisely why you need one." Adrian refused to argue further and walked away, believing that the matter was already settled. But it wasn't. You were hired as maid anyway. Now, someone new would be entering his carefully guarded personal space every day. Adrian wasn't interested in getting to know them. He decided that the simplest solution was to ignore the maid com completely.
