It opens 2,300 years in the past, when the Cynic philosopher Menippus dies but can’t pay the ferryman’s coin to cross into the Underworld. Because he has never had money, he escapes death by declaring “You cannot get from someone who doesn’t have”(ουκ αν λάβεις παρά του μη έχοντος) in Greek. Fast‑forward to the present(2010-2011): the old Greek gods (Hermes and Charon) want to retire and head to Miami, but (the psychopomp/Grim Reaper) can’t collect their pension because Menippus still hasn’t paid his fare. To solve this, they drag him through a series of absurd, bureaucratic money‑making schemes in modern Greece — each one ending in chaos — in hopes of finally settling his debt so they can all move on (they didn't)
