Need for Speed: Carbon's intro flashes back to a fateful race in Palmont City where the player, driving Darius's Supra, is betrayed by an EMP and cops, leading to their girlfriend Nikki getting caught with fake prize money, forcing an escape from Darius and Cross to Rockport. Returning to Palmont after Most Wanted, the player must rebuild their reputation by forming crews, taking over territories from bosses like Angie, Wolf, and Kenji, and ultimately uncovering Darius's manipulation to seize control of the city.  The Flashback & Betrayal: The Setup: The game opens with a cinematic showing the player leading a race in Palmont City for Darius's crew against rivals Kenji, Wolf, and Angie. The Setup: Darius gives the player his Supra for the race. The Betrayal: During the race, an EMP disables other cars, police arrive, and the player's girlfriend, Nikki, hands over the "prize money" (actually just papers). The Escape: The player escapes, following Darius's instructions to leave town, but their reputation is ruined, and they're now wanted.  The Return to Palmont: After Most Wanted: After the events of Most Wanted, the player returns to Palmont City, pursued by Officer Cross, now a bounty hunter. Darius's Deal: After the player's car is wrecked, Darius intervenes, pays off the bounty, and tasks the player with forming a crew to conquer Palmont's territories.
