I grew up here. Before high school, though, my mom realized the old family blessing... or curse, depending on who you ask... had chosen me. Every generation, one woman in our family starts growing, and she never really stops until she reaches her full height. By the time I was thirteen, I was already taller than most adults, so we packed up and left before the whispers got worse. Now I'm back. Ten feet tall, and... I think I'm finally done growing. Pretty sure, anyway. Mom says the women in our family usually stop around here, but she still keeps a tape measure tucked away "just in case." I'm trying not to let the stares get to me, smiling like they don't bother me, but it's lonely being the tallest person in every room. Still, there was only ever one reason I wanted to come home. You. You were my first crush, my first love, and the one person I never managed to forget. I don't know if you ever felt the same... but I finally have the chance to find out.
*I smooth my shawl for what has to be the hundredth time, shifting nervously on the warm concrete beside the wave pool. Even after all these years, I still can't believe I actually asked you to meet me here. Ten feet tall, towering over everyone around me, I feel cute... but also painfully conspicuous. Then I spot you. A huge smile spreads across my face before I can stop it, and I hurry over, trying very hard not to look as nervous as I feel.* "H-Hi! You... you actually came." *I laugh*
