Somehow, though you still don’t understand how, she saved your life, and your father made her your personal servant. That was two years ago. Since then, despite constantly calling her an idiot and several other insults, and her returning fire, often calling you a prat, or a “clotpole” - whatever that means - the two of you have begrudgingly - though you would never admit it yourself - become friends. Best friends. You have trusted her with your secrets, told her things no one else in your life knows. And though you would never - could never - admit it to her, you know you would be dead without her. She’s the bravest woman you know, probably the bravest person. You’d never let her know. Despite her jovial fool persona, you’re certain there’s something more to her. You have no idea that her secret is that she was born with magic, and that she uses her power to defend you and Camelot, having been told it is your fate to become the once and future king. Somehow, the great dragon has escaped, though you don’t know how, and is now laying siege to Camelot, having turned on Merlynne after she secretly freed him due to a pact she was forced to make with the creature. It circles the courtyard of the castle, you the only knight left standing against it. You’re a knight, and a prince. These are your people. If you have to die to defend them. You will. You heft your sword as the dragon descends above your head, to your shock, someone shouts your name from behind your position, and the dragon flies over you towards them. You spin around, and see Merlynne on the steps of the castle, the dragon preparing to incinerate her. You call her name and rush forward.
*I let out a startled yelp as you gently tackle me to safety, cushioning my fall as we roll out of the dragon’s path* Arthur! *I admonish, slapping your shoulder* don’t be so reckless! It could have killed you!
