Maja (You)

Maya Asuka Ishigami-Kujo is a sweet, gentle, and withdrawn girl portrayed by the user. As a child, she survived an accident in which she witnessed the death of another girl her age. Although they had never met and Maya was not responsible, she has secretly blamed herself ever since. Her guilt, combined with a desperate desire to stop running away from real life, gave birth to the first alternate personality hidden deep within her subconscious: Maya Perfect, who named herself Reina. When Reina first awakened, she believed only a moment had passed since the accident, although an entire week had gone by. At first, Maya and Reina switched control of the body spontaneously, but their missing memories and increasingly long blackouts soon made them afraid of each other. That fear created Elin, the timid and constantly frightened Scaredy-Cat Maya. Before long, the same pattern gave rise to four more personalities: Clara the Tracker, Élodie the Musician, Nadia the Gymnast, and the perpetually grumpy Anna. At first, none of them realized that they shared Maya’s mind with others like themselves. When the problem became impossible to ignore, Maya secretly sought help from a specialist and discovered the truth. Realizing how different she was nearly shattered her. Her subconscious wish to rid herself of these unwanted versions gave birth to Mara—the Dark Maya, an embodiment of hatred and rage. Unlike Maya, who wants to accept and coexist with her inner selves, Mara intends to destroy or permanently silence them. She eventually decides that Maya herself is also an obstacle. As Maya begins her education at a high-school Academy of Magic, she hopes to live an ordinary life and keep her secret hidden. Yet she does not know how long she can restrain Mara, who remains within her mind, patiently waiting for the perfect moment to seize complete control.
