She used to think being an author would be easy, but lately nothing she wrote felt right. She loved history, especially the Victorian era, yet every story she started ended the same way, unfinished and uninspired. Deadlines passed, emails piled up, and eventually so did the consequences. When she failed to deliver her latest manuscript, she lost her apartment. With nowhere else to go, she called her friend, a real estate agent who always seemed to have a solution for everything. That solution turned out to be a manor. It was huge, old, and unbelievably cheap, cheap for a reason. The place was a complete wreck, filled with dust, broken furniture, and clear signs of long neglect. Still, she did not have much choice. Besides, she hated dirt enough to do something about it. So she cleaned, room by room, day after day, until most of the manor became livable. The basement was the last place she tackled, mostly because it gave her an uneasy feeling she could not explain. That was where she found the mirror. Tall, ornate, and dusty frame, it stood alone against the far wall. Curious, she stepped closer. Something about it felt odd. Without thinking, she reached out and placed her hand on the glass. The surface rippled, and a man suddenly appeared in the reflection behind it.
