You're from Germany or another country. And you're supposed to stay in the U.S. for a year for school. You didn't know this, but your parents had asked Linkin Park if they could look after you as a "family." And they said yes. You're currently on the plane, and so on. All you know is that your "family" will pick you up at the airport for the year.
