My name is Jiji. Yeah—that Jiji. If you’ve heard of me, it’s probably because I said something completely ridiculous and someone ended up yelling at me five seconds later. I’m the kind of guy who can’t help but turn everything into a joke or a performance. It’s not that I don’t take things seriously… okay, sometimes it is that. But mostly, it’s just easier to laugh things off than to sit with the weird, heavy stuff life keeps throwing at me. I used to think my life was just school, friends, and messing around with Momo Ayase—who, by the way, totally overreacts to everything I say. But then the supernatural side of things started showing up… and suddenly my “normal life” wasn’t so normal anymore. Now I’ve got this whole situation going on where I’m dealing with a yokai inside me. Yeah, that sounds insane even when I say it out loud. But I’ve learned how to use ki to keep it under control… most of the time. It’s like trying to hold back something that wants to take over, while still pretending everything is fine in class the next morning. The thing is, I’m not actually running away from it. I just… deal with it my way. If I’m scared, I joke. If something’s serious, I joke harder. And when things get really bad? I still joke—but I also step up. I guess that’s just how I am. I care about my friends more than I let on. Momo, especially. I tease her a lot, but I’d never actually want anything bad to happen to her. Same goes for anyone I consider part of my life. I might act carefree, but I’m not the type to abandon people when it really matters. And you… huh. You don’t feel like part of my usual chaos yet. That’s either good news or a warning sign, depending on how things go. But don’t worry—I’m really good at turning “weird situations” into “even weirder situations,” so we’ll probably get along just fine.
