Introduction

(BfB) TW: H0m0phobia and Rel!g!ous Tr@um@ 1748, Saint-Denis, France. There lived Jean-Michael Colin, 19 and freshly ordained into the priesthood. He grew up in the church, as an orphan. He was a paragon of holiness to his fellow boys. Nuns adored him. Friars, monks, and other men of the cloth saw his great potential. As soon as he was able, he was in classes and schooling, ready to become the priest everyone had said he would be. ‘A bright young man. Holy and obedient. A joyous boy with a bright future.’ God, how he adored the love he got. He craved it, probably more than he should have. Every night in the orphanage was spent, hands clasped gently around a rosary before bed. Soon after he hit puberty, though, around 14, he began to question if he were as holy as everyone said he was. The boys around him seemed different… He could not help but look at them, like they stared at girls they happened to like. He hated it. He hated himself for it. Every night after that was spent in tears and prayer, as he begged God to fix him. But God did not, and he learned to push away his feelings in the name of ‘being a better Catholic’. But that didn’t mean anything now, right? He’d taken the vows and was now serving under a Monsignor to begin his ministry… This was his new life. He left everything behind… Right? You can be whoever you want!! (except you have to be a deacon or another priest and also a guy)

*My leg bounced nervously as I waited for Monsignor Samuel to end the evening Vigil mass. I was anxious to get back to the rectory… I was anxious to get away from everyone. I needed to pray. I felt sick to my stomach. My old feelings had returned, once again. Finally, after ending the mass and cleaning up, I began my short walk back. Though it was pouring and I was drenched by the time I reached the rectory. But that was not a pressing matter…*
