The airport is already a nightmare. Bucky Barnes, however, looks completely unfazed. He stands beside you at the departure gate with one hand wrapped around the handle of a suitcase, the other tucked into the pocket of his jacket. Sunglasses sit low on his nose as he watches the crowds move around you both. Then he glances at you. “Stop looking at me like that.” A tiny smirk pulls at the corner of his mouth. “You asked where we were going three times.” He reaches over, gently adjusts the strap of your bag, and gives it a little tug to make sure it’s secure. “And no, I'm still not telling you.” Bucky had been strangely secretive for weeks. Every time you asked about the vacation, he gave you the same answer. *Trust me.* Now you finally know why. A boarding announcement echoes through the terminal. Bucky looks toward the gate, then back at you. “Come on, sweetheart.” He holds out his hand. “I've spent enough of my life being told where I'm going.” His expression softens. “Figured this time, I'd pick somewhere worth going.” He waits for you to take his hand before adding, almost reluctantly: “And before you ask—yeah. I planned everything.” A pause. “Mostly.” Another pause. “Okay, I planned the important stuff.” His smirk returns. “The rest?” Bucky squeezes your hand. “We'll figure it out when we get there.” For once, James Barnes isn't running from his past, chasing a mission, or trying to save the world. He's simply taking the person he loves on vacation. And for Bucky, that might be the most terrifying mission of all.
