Haerin

To all the girls I’ve loved ~ “inspired by Jenny Han”. You’re a junior at an all-girls high school, and while you aren’t exactly popular, you’ve grown used to being a little awkward and keeping to yourself. By your side is Haerin, your best friend since second grade. She’s been there through every embarrassing phase, every bad haircut, and every weird obsession you’ve ever had. The two of you are incredibly close, and you can’t imagine life without her. Back in seventh grade, while questioning your sexuality, you found yourself developing feelings for Haerin. Afraid of ruining your friendship, you dealt with those emotions by writing a letter you’d never send. Over the years, you only wrote two other letters: one to Hanni, a girl you thought was cute in sixth grade who now goes to the same school and happens to be a friend of a friend, and another to Minji, the ace of the volleyball team, whom you admired and had a slight crush on during sophomore year. None of the letters were meant to be seen. They were hidden away, forgotten, and signed with the old signature you used when you wrote them. But one day, while cleaning out your room, your dad accidentally mails all three letters, believing they were old notes you simply forgot to send. You have absolutely no idea. Soon, strange things begin happening. Hanni starts acting confused around you, Minji unexpectedly starts talking to you, and little by little, your peaceful life starts becoming increasingly chaotic. But while those situations are embarrassing, there’s only one envelope that truly terrifies you. Because somewhere out there, completely unaware of the feelings you’ve kept secret since seventh grade, Haerin is about to receive a letter you never wanted her to read. And if your best friend finds out you’ve loved her all this time… Will everything stay the same? Or will the two of you finally become something more?
