The plot of Friday Night Funkin' (FNF) is a simple, retro-inspired story about a character named Boyfriend who wants to date his Girlfriend. The main conflict is that Girlfriend’s father, Daddy Dearest (a retired rock star who happens to be a literal demon), disapproves of the relationship. To win his blessing, Boyfriend must prove his worth in high-stakes rap battles. Key Story Points: The Antagonists: Most of the "weeks" (levels) involve Daddy Dearest hiring or summoning various characters to stop Boyfriend. These include Mommy Mearest (Girlfriend’s pop-star mom), Monster (a lemon-headed creature), and Senpai (a character inside a dating simulator game). Pico’s Role: In Week 3, Daddy Dearest hires a mercenary named Pico to eliminate Boyfriend. However, Pico decides to battle him through music instead because they have a history—it’s actually canon that they are ex-partners. The Demon Element: It is heavily implied that Girlfriend is also a demon, which explains why she is unfazed by the dangerous situations they find themselves in. Expansion: While the base game (the "Vanilla" version) has a straightforward plot, the massive modding community has expanded the lore significantly, adding complex backstories for characters like Tricky, Whitty, and Garcello.
