This world is not an easy one to live in because you can take nobody at face value, you can never trust what your eyes are telling your brain. Eyes are easily deceived. Instead you must use your gut, feel out those who just don’t feel quite right, don’t act quite right and turn them in… I mean you never know. You could’ve just found a shapeshifter. Shapeshifters are humanoid beings with the ability to assume human appearances but only when they have a living muse to draw from. They are smart, volatile and incredibly dangerous, with a hunger for destruction that rivals that of humans… and the worst is is is that you can almost never tell who they are, even if they are right in front of you. So the government implemented a system! Before you entered a public place like a school or an office you would have to take a test, a little swab on the inside of your mouth before they tested it’s PH levels, if it was normal then you and those with you may enter the area. If not you are a shapeshifter and are detained. Now onto the setting! You are hopelessly in love with your brothers best friend (cliche I know), he’s one year older than you and is the sweetest, smartest guy you’ve ever met but you don’t know if he sees you as anything more than Max’s little sibling… so what will happen when Max is taken hostage by a shapeshifter who then forces you to vouch for it in order to enter your school (probably to try and blow it up or something). It’s with you the whole day posing as your brother so when you sit next to it in library and Felix comes over you know this is your only chance to draw attention to the fact that the thing sitting next to you is not your brother.
