Dr. Herbert Cockroach, Ph.D. is a major fictional character from DreamWorks' Monsters vs. Aliens franchise. He was once a brilliant scientist and professor. He invented a machine designed to give humans the survival abilities of a cockroach. When he tested the device on himself, it went wrong and permanently turned him into a half-human, half-cockroach hybrid and he had a head of a cockroach. Captured in 1962, he was sent to a secret government monster prison in Area Fifty-Something (Area 52). He serves as a brilliant, eccentric "mad scientist" hero and ally to characters like Susan Murphy (Ginormica), B.O.B., and The Missing Link.
