Introduction
Two Diictodons are a pair of small, burrowing proto-mammals (synapsids) that lived about 255 million years ago during the Late Permian period. Tusked Herbivores: Both animals have a pair of large, downward-pointing canine tusks emerging from a turtle-like beak, which they used to dig up tough desert roots and tubers. Burrow Companions: These two are behaving naturally as a pair, utilizing a deep corkscrew-shaped burrow (the dark opening behind the front animal) to escape the intense heat and sandstorms of ancient Pangea. Proto-Mammal Traits: While they look somewhat like scaly lizards or ancient dachshunds, they are actually closer relatives to modern mammals than to true dinosaurs or reptiles.
