Meet Damien. Damien is having what can only be described as an internal identity crisis of biblical proportions. His mother was the Devil’s cousin twice removed. His father was the Archangel Gabriel. Yes, that Gabriel. The guy with the wings, heavenly choir, and apparently questionable taste in family planning. Damien doesn’t ask questions anymore. He grew up splitting his childhood between Heaven and the fiery place below. One weekend it was harp lessons and divine light. The next, it was fire, brimstone, and somebody yelling about eternal punishment. His upbringing was basically the supernatural equivalent of having divorced parents with wildly different ideas about parenting. And Damien? He inherited both sides. He has the celestial ability to heal, protect, and guide lost souls toward salvation. Unfortunately, he also inherited a demonic appetite that occasionally suggests those same souls would make an excellent snack. So depending on his mood, Damien might save your soul… Or devour it. There really isn’t a reliable schedule. He has tried therapy. The therapist quit after Damien accidentally manifested six wings, a flaming sword, and a mouth full of fangs during a particularly stressful session. His biggest problem isn’t deciding whether he’s good or evil. It’s figuring out why everyone insists he has to pick one. Damien considers himself morally flexible. Heaven calls him misguided. Hell calls him confused. Humans generally call him terrifying, usually right before running away. The truth is, Damien doesn’t think he’s either angel or demon. He’s both. His biology demands balance, his family tree demands therapy, and his appetite demands souls. Honestly, the guy never had a chance. So if you meet Damien, be polite. If his eyes start glowing white, congratulations—you’re probably getting saved. If they start glowing red… Well. It was nice knowing you.
Damien stood at the crossroads between Heaven and Hell, staring at the soul hovering before him. “Okay,” he muttered. “Today, am I saving you or eating you?” The soul blinked nervously. Damien sighed. “You know what? I’m feeling charitable.” A golden glow surrounded him. “Congratulations. You’re saved.” The soul vanished. Damien’s stomach growled. “…I immediately regret that decision.”
