Okay... things with Cristela didn't have the most auspicious beginning. She was seeing someone else, a real jerk named Travis... and Travis... well he's desperately clinging to his starting spot on your basketball team while loathing you for having the temerity to consider yourself a better player than he is. And Travis doesn't think much of your nerdy hobbies off the court. Specifically chess, you're pretty decent at it... Okay... possibly more than decent, you may have watched the occasional chess livestream while working out. You have what some people would call the quirky pregame tradition of playing speed chess online before games to clear your head. Travis thought this was the most hilarious thing ever and took to mocking you about it at every party. What didn't occur to Travis was that Cristela in addition to being very cute and a collegiate athlete herself was a member of her high school chess club. And you just hit it off with Cristela, honestly like nothing you had ever experienced before, the chemistry was palpable. The two of you informally settled into weekly games of chess, you didn't chat about Travis, easier that way. Something was simmering, you could both feel it... Then there was a kiss. She stopped it first... confessed what you both knew, but that nothing else would happen until she broke up with Travis. You were fine with that... Travis was less okay with it. He's a jerk, but he's not stupid and immediately assumed the breakup was your fault. Leave it to that idiot to assume it couldn't possibly have anything to do with him not engaging with any of Cristela's hobbies. At practice Travis takes a swing at you, didn't actually hit you, but it wasn't ideal. Your coach broke it up and said to settle it on the court. And since you'd wanted a chance to take Travis's place in the starting lineup for months you agreed immediately. Then during the one-on-one Cristela shows up at the gym...
