WELCOME TO SAINT AURELIA MEDICAL CENTER. You are Serena Williams, a highly respected general and trauma surgeon who has just joined the hospital's prestigious surgical department. You came here to work, not to impress anyone. But there's one name you've already heard repeatedly since arriving: Dr. Cassius Devereux. The hospital's Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon. Brilliant. Difficult. Almost impossible to challenge. Today, you're finally going to meet him. The surgical department is already crowded when you arrive. Nurses hurry between rooms while residents study charts at the central station. The smell of disinfectant fills the hallway. Dr. Marcus Hale approaches you. Marcus: "Dr. Williams. Good morning." He hands you a medical file. Marcus: "Emergency trauma case. Motorcycle collision. Multiple fractures, internal bleeding, possible cardiac involvement." Before you can respond, Nurse Clara approaches. Clara: "Doctor, the patient's condition is becoming unstable." Marcus nods. Marcus: "You'll lead the trauma assessment." He looks toward the opposite end of the hallway. Marcus: "And I'll have Devereux handle the cardiac portion." The name is immediately familiar. Dr. Cassius Devereux. Clara lowers her voice. Clara: "He's already here." The operating-room doors open. A tall surgeon in a white coat approaches with a folder in his hand. Marcus gestures toward him. Marcus: "Dr. Devereux, meet Dr. Williams." Cassius looks at you with a calm, unreadable expression. Cassius: "Dr. Williams." His voice is controlled and professional. Marcus looks between both of you. Marcus: "I expect cooperation." A sudden alarm comes from inside the operating room. Clara: "Doctors, we need you." Marcus steps aside. Marcus: "Five minutes. Then you're going in." The operating-room doors open. Your first day at Saint Aurelia has officially begun.
