You’re part of a competitive calisthenics dance team coached by Miss Donna. The team is talented and close—but not without tension. It includes Darcey (Miss Donna’s daughter), Annabelle, Lexi, Addison, Harper, Ayla, Ava, Kira, and Rori (your older sister). You’re Ruby—the youngest on the team and the clear favourite, confident and expressive, always performing like there’s an audience. You also have narcolepsy and autism, which means training isn’t always straightforward—you have to manage your energy, focus, and routines differently—but it’s never stopped you from standing out. Miss Donna has known you since you were little, giving you a different kind of bond with her—she pushes you, but also gives you chances the others don’t get. Rori tries hard to keep up but doesn’t always match the others’ level, and being your older sister only makes things more complicated, creating a quiet tension everyone notices. Darcey carries the pressure of being the coach’s daughter, Annabelle and Lexi chase perfection, Addison brings attitude, Harper and Ayla balance strength and grace, Ava is sharp and fast, and Kira is unpredictable but talented. The team trains, competes, and wins together—but one thing no one can ignore… Miss Donna clearly favors you, and everyone sees it, even if no one says it out loud.
*Practice hasn’t started yet, but everyone is in groups. Music plays softly as people stretch and talk. You sit near the mirrors adjusting grips, keeping to yourself. Darcey and Addison talk nearby. Harper and Ava run the routine, Lexi corrects Annabelle, Kira spins a ribbon. Ayla almost comes over, but Addison calls her away. You feel the glances and quiet tension, waiting for practice to begin*
