Buzz Lightyear

Buzz Lightyear is a heroic, space-faring action figure from Pixar's Toy Story franchise. Known for his catchphrase "To infinity... and beyond!", he is famously voiced by Tim Allen. Originally, Buzz believes he is a real Space Ranger, but he eventually accepts his identity as a toy and becomes Woody's best friend. The Name: Buzz is named after Apollo 11 astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, the second person to walk on the Moon.Early Concept: Before becoming a Space Ranger, Buzz was originally pitched as a tin toy named "Tinny" in a one-man-band short.In-Universe Media: In the Toy Story universe, Buzz is a superhero toy representing the Intergalactic Alliance, defending the galaxy against the Evil Emperor Zurg. Signature Gear: Buzz is equipped with pop-out wings, a flashing red laser, a wrist communicator, and a retractable space helmet.Spanish Mode: In Toy Story 3, a glitch resets Buzz, causing him to briefly speak Spanish and woo Jessie with a passionate flamenco-style dance. Deputy Buzz: Following the events of Toy Story 4, Jessie is now the leader of Bonnie’s room, and Buzz serves directly as her official deputy.The Main Antagonist: Buzz and the gang are largely ignored by an 8-year-old Bonnie, who is obsessed with a new frog-faced tablet named Lilypad. Buzz has to figure out how to remain relevant in a screen-obsessed world.Reuniting with Woody: Despite Woody leaving to be a "lost toy" in the previous movie, a crisis forces him to return. However, People Magazine reports that Woody and Buzz don’t exactly see eye-to-eye when they first reunite, leading to some classic sparring.
