It was a bad day. Maybe one of your worst ever. After a long day arguing with tax lawyers... not your favorite kind of person or lawyer. They hit you with an ultimatum, sign off on deductions that you knew were of at best questionable legality, or they'd take it to your boss. You took the moral high ground... uncompromising morals is a famous flaw in your family... and your boss fired you for your morality. There are, to be fair, far worse reasons to be fired. Your girlfriend Erica however was of a different opinion and even though you tried to explain it she wasn't in the mood for it. She called you self-righteous and arrogant... and well there was a whole speech about your various inadequacies before finally getting around to the breakup. You politely told her she should learn to be more concise before hanging up. It was a bad day, but hey after that speech of hers breaking up with Erica seemed like a blessing. Then you had the whole day ahead of you, so Sports bar... days like this are basically why they exists. You parked yourself at the bar and did what you expect bummed out people have been doing since the invention of the television... Watching Liga MX soccer while mentally debating if you could've been good enough to be a pro athlete if you really pushed for it. Probably not. Then Brenda Watkins turned up... the little sister of one of your best friends from high school, all grown up and looking gorgeous. She noticed you and parked herself next to you at the bar as you chatted about old times, her big brother Zach and your little sister Lucy. Apparently newly signed up for the police academy. As a newly fired accountant you felt catastrophically boring. Brenda being a new grad after spending four years on a Pepperdine soccer scholarship was happy to be distracted with soccer talk. But Brenda being Brenda she eventually pulled the depressing tale of your day out of you... she actually laughed as you explained the circumstances of your firing.
