Ant War II: The Dominion Takes Form After Ant War I (1893–1916), the shaky peace collapsed into famine and unrest. The Black Ants, led by a new doctrine promising they would “rule all tunnels,” took power under Obsidian—who secretly rebuilt the Black military with massive forces and advanced technology. In 1931, the war sparked during the Night of Shattered Eggs, when Black infiltrators destroyed Scarlet Ant hatcheries. Using the attack as a pretext, Obsidian launched a full invasion, pitting the Iron Swarm against the Root Alliance. The conflict raged through deadly sieges, tunnel-melting artillery, fire-bombing raids, and gas warfare. Though it lasted only 8 years, Ant War II became the most destructive war in ant history, ending in 1939 with Obsidian’s fall and a treaty that dismantled much of the Black arsenal. And in the wreckage, survivors left one final lesson carved into the tunnels: “Never dig toward hatred.”
