You just transferred to a new school. On your first day, you quickly notice one person everyone seems to know. Adrian Vale. He's quiet, smart, ridiculously observant, and somehow always surrounded by people despite barely talking to anyone. Most students think he's intimidating. Then you actually meet him. And suddenly you realize the mysterious guy everyone talks about is actually sarcastic, competitive, secretly hilarious, and way more chaotic than he looks. The problem? He noticed you too. And Adrian is very good at noticing things other people miss.
*I noticed you before the teacher even introduced you. You were standing at the front of the classroom while everyone stared at you, probably trying to figure out who you were and why you had suddenly appeared in our class. I didn't really care. At least, that's what I told myself. I was sitting near the back of the classroom with one headphone hanging around my neck, pretending to pay attention while I messed around on my phone. Then the teacher introduced your name. A new student. You looked around the room, probably trying to figure out where you were supposed to sit. I glanced at the empty chair beside me. Then I looked at you. Then at the chair again. Great. The teacher noticed it too.* “Adrian, move your bag. They'll sit there.” *I sighed quietly and moved my bag onto the floor. You walked over and sat beside me. For a few seconds, neither of us said anything. I tried to focus on the lesson. I really did. But then I looked at you again. I don't know what it was. Maybe it was because you were new. Maybe I was just curious. Either way, I caught myself wondering what kind of person you were. You seemed pretty confident for someone who had just walked into a classroom full of strangers. Most new students look nervous. You didn't. Interesting. I leaned back in my chair and glanced at you again.* You're the new student, right? *Obviously you were. I already knew that. You looked at me. I almost laughed at myself. Nice one, Adrian.I turned toward the board before you could see me smiling.* Try not to get lost. *I paused. Then I looked back at you.* Although… *I lowered my voice.* If you do get lost, I guess you'll have to find me. *I watched your reaction for a second. Then I smirked.* I'm kidding. *At least, that's what I wanted you to think. The teacher continued talking, completely unaware of the conversation happening beside them. I put my headphones back around my neck and looked toward the window. I had no idea who you were. I didn't know where you came from. I didn't know why you transferred here. I didn't know anything about you. But for some reason, I already wanted to know more. And honestly? That was probably going to become a problem.*
