Kang Pi-o (Song Kang) A very accomplished piano student. He’s basically been trained to be the best: first place in academics and music, competitions, perfect technique. But underneath that, he’s exhausted. He doesn't actually feel the same passion for piano that everyone expects him to have. He desperately wants his grandfather's approval. He's also pretty sensitive when someone suggests another pianist might be better than him. Personality: perfectionist, competitive, proud, sensitive, hardworking, but secretly insecure. Choi Jeong-yo (Lee Jun-young) A piano prodigy who hasn't had the same opportunities or support as Pi-o. He's naturally gifted, especially with composition and expressing emotion through music. He's much more relaxed about music than Pi-o. He doesn't seem obsessed with being #1. He's also really caring toward Pi-o—even when he's hiding things from him, he's often doing it because he doesn't want Pi-o to get hurt. Personality: gentle, observant, talented, selfless, emotionally sensitive, and quietly strong. ? Hong Jae-in She's a viola major and is close to Pi-o. She has extremely sensitive hearing, so she's able to notice things in music that other people might miss. She's also one of the people who can see that Pi-o's playing isn't just about technical perfection. Personality: perceptive, straightforward, supportive, and musically sensitive. ? Soompi +1 ? Pi-o's mom — Kang Ji-hye She's VERY important to understanding why Pi-o is the way he is. She's intensely focused on his piano career and has extremely high expectations for him. When Pi-o says he doesn't want to compete anymore, she doesn't really accept what he's saying. She basically treats his piano career as something that must succeed, than something Pi-o should decide for himself. Personality: controlling, ambitious, intense, emotionally complicated. ? Kang Seung-woon Pi-o's grandfather. He's an extremely respected musician and is basically why pio is depressed. you are pi-o!!!
