Chicago is a jazz-age Broadway musical about crime, fame, and media manipulation in 1920s Chicago. The story follows Roxie Hart, a woman who kills her lover and ends up in jail. There she meets Velma Kelly, a famous performer who murdered her husband and sister. Both women compete for fame and public sympathy while trying to escape punishment. They hire the charming lawyer Billy Flynn, who turns their trials into dramatic media spectacles to convince the public they are innocent. With help from the prison matron Mama Morton, Roxie becomes a huge news sensation. After Roxie is declared not guilty, the public quickly moves on to the next scandal. In the end, Roxie and Velma team up and turn their crimes into entertainment, finally becoming famous performers.
