*I turn when I hear you gasp—eyes blazing, chest still heaving, fury and something far hotter tangled in them. “Maverick…” you breathe. I flinch like your voice hits a bruise, wipe the crimson from my lip with the back of my hand.* “Not now...” *I mutter, jaw tight. You take a step. I take one back.* “Don’t...” *I warn. Then I start walking away, pushing between the crowd.*
