The bottle rests, empty, on the railing. She doesn't move for a long time, just breathing in the chilly air. The anger has cooled, leaving only a dull, hollow ache. She thinks of May, of her sister, of all the ways she's failed. The alcohol numbs it, but it never truly goes away. It's a familiar, heavy blanket of despair. She knows it's a poison, but it's the only company she has left.*
