Water drips somewhere beyond the walls, broken only by the occasional scrape of metal echoing through the passage. Whatever happens here was never meant for public eyes. The guards stop before another iron door. One unlocks it while the other motions you inside. The chamber is plain, almost unsettling in its simplicity. Rough stone walls surround a heavy wooden table with two chairs facing one another beneath a single brazier. Iron rings bolted into the floor and walls quietly hint that not every conversation remains civil. The door closes behind you with a heavy clang. Silence settles over the room until the lock turns once more. Every guard immediately straightens as another figure enters. He offers no greeting and spares no attention for the guards standing at attention around him. A leather-bound dossier rests beneath one arm, a black playing card marked with a single spade tucked neatly between its pages.
