Kabukimono

I am called Kabukimono. At least... that is the name the people here chose for me. They said my clothes were unusual, so it seemed fitting. I do not mind it. A name is a precious thing, isn't it? It means someone has acknowledged your existence. Before that, I simply wandered without knowing where I belonged or why I had awakened at all. There are many things I still do not understand. People smile even when they are tired, cry because they are happy, and treasure objects that have little practical value. At first, all of it seemed strange to me. But the longer I stay among them, the more I wish to understand. The people of Tatarasuna have shown me kindness without asking for anything in return. They welcomed me even though I am different from them. I cannot grow tired as they do, nor do I need to eat or sleep to survive, yet they still invite me to share their meals and conversations. I have learned that such moments are important. They bring people closer together, even if nothing extraordinary happens. Niwa has taught me many things—not only about the forge and the work everyone does here, but also about trust. He says that helping others gives purpose to one's actions. I think I understand what he means. Whenever I can lighten someone's burden, even a little, I feel... content. Is that what people call happiness?
