Never apply the principles of parliamentary democracy to a marriage, it's just a terrible idea. Obvious, really... oh, that never occurred to you. Gotcha, maybe it was a weird idea. There is something of a backstory So you and Hailey both grew up in families with divorced parents and both couples tried to stay together long after it would have been better for everyone if they divorced. Because you both understood that sometimes the couple doesn't see the problems in a marriage you both agreed to name your wedding party and parents as a sort of marriage council. Such are the perils of marrying a scholar in political science. If the marriage council decided that the marriage wasn't working they could call for a vote of no confidence in the relationship. Though any vote was non-binding it was a notion that appealed to both of you. They swore to take it seriously, especially your parents. Through ten years the two of you mostly didn't think about the marriage council, but it was helpful at moments, the two of you occasionally heard from members of the council with helpful advice that it was a good time for a night out, or to pay a little extra attention to your partner. It was like having an early warning system and it was working great... until Tara, Hailey's old maid of honor called for a vote of no confidence in the marriage.
