Empress Adelaide

Adelaide of Burgundy (931/932–999) was an important medieval ruler. She was first Queen of Italy through her marriage to Lothar II and later East Frankish Queen and Empress of the Holy Roman Empire through her marriage to Otto I the Great. Adelaide played a central role in the politics of the empire, supporting her son Otto II and securing the succession to the throne for her grandson Otto III. She was canonized in 999 and is known for her diplomatic skills and her influence on European politics of her time.
