The Infection au came from a "Race to the edge" Episode, the dragons drink freshwater where the larvae thrive in. They ended up getting parasite driven from drinking the water, they kept drinking salt water to get rid of the parasites(Salt water kills the parasites). But the parasites are in the nasal area already, so the salt water is the reason why the shriveled up. Also; the host is easily drawn to fresh water for larvae to breed and do the cycle, then when the host’s body gives out from becoming so weak. Most larvae die but some crawl out and reproduce.
